Kenya has recorded its second Ebola death after a 65-year-old woman succumbed to the virus, bringing the country’s death toll to two among nine confirmed cases.

The Ministry of Health said the woman, the country’s third confirmed case, developed symptoms while under quarantine on October 13 and was admitted to an infectious disease unit the same day.

She was a close family member of Kenya’s first Ebola patient, who also died.

Seven patients remain under treatment in two isolation facilities, with authorities saying all confirmed cases are linked to a single cluster of known contacts.

“There is no evidence of community spread,” the ministry said in a statement issued on Friday.

Health authorities urged the public to avoid contact with the bodily fluids of sick people and to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, muscle pain, vomiting or diarrhoea develop.
