Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged to build a house for Gokwe couple Vusimuzi Mkandla and Thando Tshuma, who cycled across 22 countries, complete with electricity, solar panels, a borehole and fencing.
The couple revealed the pledge in a video shared on social media following their meeting with Mnangagwa on Wednesday.
They said the president asked about their plans after returning to Gokwe, where they are building a home, before offering to take over the construction.
According to the couple, Mnangagwa told them to redirect materials they had already gathered towards other future projects, promising to build them their dream home.
“He said that when it comes to your house, I’m going to build you your dream house, a house of your dream,” they recounted.
The couple said the house would also have fencing, electricity, solar panels and a borehole.
They added that the Minister of Youth was expected to attend the official opening, while Mnangagwa himself might also be present.
The couple also revealed that they received iPhone 18 devices from the president but declined to disclose other details of their meeting, saying some matters would rather remain confidential.
