ZANU PF’s Masvingo Province has aligned itself with the Women’s League, advocating for a halt to all internal party elections until 2030.

This move aims to synchronise the party’s constitution with recent amendments to the national Constitution.

The province has also suggested that current party leaders continue their roles during this interim period.

This will result in the postponement of the elective Congress from 2027 to 2029.

These resolutions were presented during a Provincial Inter-District Meeting at Masvingo Polytechnic, in anticipation of the ZANU PF National People’s Conference set for 2026 in Mashonaland West.

The Women’s League has also advanced this proposal, indicating a broader strategy orchestrated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The proposed amendments carry significant consequences for ZANU PF, particularly concerning Vice President Chiwenga, effectively diminishing his prospect of being President in 2028.

The two-year extension until 2030 will offer Mnangagwa the opportunity to solidify his and his family’s influence, amidst growing speculation that he favours businessman Kuda Tagwirei as his potential successor.

However, this situation could intensify the ongoing factional disputes within ZANU PF.
