ACCRA – The Government of Ghana has called for a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong in the Bronx, New York, as it pledged to support his family in their pursuit of justice.
Frimpong was shot dead at about 9.20 am on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while on his way to school. The Ghanaian government said the suspects had not yet been identified.
In a press statement issued on Friday, October 30, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the killing and urged authorities in the Bronx to ensure those responsible were brought to justice.
“The Government of Ghana conveys deepest condolences to the family of Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager who was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York, USA,” the statement read.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said he had spoken directly with the teenager’s father, Thomas Frimpong, assuring him of the government’s full support in seeking justice for his son.
“We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it,” Ablakwa said.
The minister also conveyed condolences on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, describing the killing as a devastating loss.
“We are all saddened. We are all distraught. He did not deserve this,” he said.
Meanwhile, officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York visited the bereaved family on Friday to express their condolences and convey the government’s solidarity and support.
The Ghanaian government said its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Permanent Mission in New York would work with United States authorities to pursue justice and provide the family with appropriate legal and consular assistance.
It also called for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death, stressing the need for those responsible to face justice.
Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety, dignity and well-being of its citizens abroad, saying its thoughts and prayers were with Frimpong’s family, friends and loved ones in both the United States and Ghana.
The government also extended its sympathies to the teenager’s mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, who is based in Kumasi, Ghana.
According to Thomas Frimpong, his son Javits had come to New York from Ghana just one year earlier and had recently told him about being bullied at school.
