A private hospital in South Africa has offered to donate manual hospital beds to Zimbabwean public hospitals following concerns over shortages of medical equipment in the country’s healthcare system.
Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono said the hospital approached him after he highlighted the poor condition of hospital beds in Zimbabwe’s public health institutions in a social media post.
According to Chin’ono, the South African facility is replacing its manual beds with electric ones and has offered the old equipment to Zimbabwean hospitals where it can still be used.
“A private South African hospital has contacted me, offering to donate these manual hospital beds to any public hospital in Zimbabwe,” he said.
He invited interested public hospitals to contact him to facilitate the donation, adding that the receiving institutions would be responsible for arranging transportation from Benoni, South Africa, to Zimbabwe.
Chin’ono said the hospital would provide details of where the beds could be collected.
Interested hospital officials can contact him through hopewell2@post.harvard.edu.
The number of beds available for donation was not disclosed.
