Harare – The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has seized a Lamborghini Urus and a Mercedes-Benz suspected of having been illegally imported into the country, with ZimLive reporting that Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, was among five men arrested during the operation.
According to ZACC spokesperson Simiso Mlevu, the two luxury vehicles were seized on Wednesday at a lodge in Newlands, Harare, as part of an intensified asset recovery drive targeting property suspected of being involved in corruption and other illegal activities.
Mlevu said preliminary investigations indicated that both vehicles had entered Zimbabwe under temporary import permits but had allegedly remained in the country after being recorded as having exited.
According to official records, the Lamborghini entered Zimbabwe in June and exited on July 12, while the Mercedes-Benz reportedly entered on the same date and was recorded as having left for South Africa on October 10.
However, both vehicles were found in Harare and seized by ZACC investigators.
During the operation, one commission official was allegedly assaulted by individuals suspected of involvement in the smuggling of the vehicles, prompting the commission to report the matter to the police.
In a post on X, ZimLive reported that Chatunga Mugabe was among five men arrested for allegedly assaulting the ZACC investigator during the seizure operation.
The arrests and the alleged involvement of Mugabe have not been independently confirmed by ZACC in the statement provided.
The seizure forms part of ZACC’s intensified asset recovery efforts aimed at depriving suspects of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of corruption.
The commission has not disclosed the registered owners of the vehicles or provided further details about the investigation.
