FEATHERSTONE — Featherstone police have arrested a 34-year-old man on allegations of stock theft after a high-speed chase that ended when his vehicle struck and killed a calf.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said Filton Kachavi was arrested on 13 September 2026 after he allegedly failed to stop when police signalled him near Wadyiwa Wamira Shops along the Harare-Masvingo Highway.

Police said Kachavi was driving a Toyota Probox when he sped away, triggering a chase.

The vehicle later turned onto Charter Road, where it struck a calf, killing the animal on the spot.

The collision brought the vehicle to an abrupt halt, leading to the arrest of Kachavi and the recovery of eight 50 kg bags of deboned beef.

According to police investigations, the meat had allegedly been stolen from two complainants in Mvuma.

Kachavi is facing stock theft charges.
