Haulage trucks have been barred from using part of the Harare-Chirundu Road between Harare and Chinhoyi, with the restriction taking effect immediately on Tuesday, October 13, as police move to control traffic during the ongoing ZANU PF conference.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Mashonaland West announced the restriction, directing haulage truck drivers to use alternative routes to ease traffic congestion around Chinhoyi, where the party’s National People’s Conference is being held at Chinhoyi University of Technology.

Drivers travelling from Chinhoyi to Harare have been ordered to use the Chinhoyi–Chegutu Road before joining the Robert Mugabe Highway, which links to the Harare–Bulawayo Road at Norton.

The same diversion applies to haulage trucks travelling from Harare towards Chinhoyi.

Police said the temporary measure was necessary to keep traffic moving smoothly during the political gathering, urging transport operators to cooperate with officers.

The ZANU PF Party’s 23rd National People’s Conference is scheduled for October 12 to October 17, 2026, at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Province.

This event is anticipated to attract around 7,500 delegates, making it a significant gathering for the party’s leadership and structures.
