Harare – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged support for a young couple from Gokwe, Midlands Province, who cycled through 22 African countries in recognition of their determination and ambition.
The couple, Thando Tshuma and Vusumuzi Mkandla, both aged 30, recently met the president after sharing their remarkable journey, according to Youth Minister Tinitenda Machakaire.
In a statement, Machakaire said the president had personally committed to supporting the couple’s dreams and tasked him with facilitating the assistance.
“After listening to their inspiring journey, His Excellency personally committed to supporting their dreams and tasked me with facilitating that support,” Machakaire said.
The minister described the meeting as a deeply touching moment, commending the couple for pursuing their ambitions beyond their circumstances.
The pair’s cycling expedition across 22 African countries has drawn attention to their determination and resilience, with their journey from rural Gokwe demonstrating the potential of young Zimbabweans to pursue ambitious goals beyond the country’s borders.
Machakaire said their experience showed that a person’s background should not determine the limits of their aspirations.
“Their story reminds us that greatness is not determined by where you come from but by how far you are prepared to go in pursuit of your dreams,” he said.
The minister urged young Zimbabweans to draw inspiration from the couple’s achievement and remain committed to their ambitions despite challenges.
The President’s pledge of support marks a significant development for the couple as they seek to advance their aspirations following their cycling journey across the continent.
