ZANU-PF legislator Tendai Nyabani has called on the government to gazette all land allocated for residential purposes, saying the move would expose land ownership details and help curb the activities of land barons.

Speaking at the just-ended pre-budget seminar in Bulawayo, the Rushinga MP argued that publicly documenting residential land allocations would promote transparency and accountability by allowing citizens to establish who owns land across the country.

Nyabani said the government should ensure that information on residential stands is officially recorded and made accessible to the public to eliminate confusion over ownership and expose individuals exploiting home seekers.

His remarks come amid a wave of demolitions across Zimbabwe that have left families homeless after some residents reportedly lost their savings to land barons who sold them residential stands without proper documentation or legal authority.

The legislator said a transparent land allocation system would help address the problem by making it easier to identify legitimate landowners and hold those involved in illegal land deals accountable.

The demolitions have heightened concerns over the security of residential property, with affected families facing uncertainty over their investments and the legality of the stands they purchased.

Nyabani’s proposal places the spotlight on the need for stronger oversight of residential land allocations and measures to protect home seekers from fraudulent land deals.
