Trey Nyoni, a Liverpool midfielder with Zimbabwean roots, made his Premier League debut against Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday.
The 19-year-old, born in England to Zimbabwean parents, was included in the starting XI as Liverpool made seven changes from the team that defeated Chelsea in the Carabao Cup earlier in the week.
Nyoni’s breakthrough is attracting interest in Zimbabwe, where football fans are monitoring his progress and hope he could eventually represent the Warriors at the senior international level.
The midfielder has represented England at youth level but remains eligible to play for Zimbabwe through his parentage.
He joined Liverpool from Leicester City in 2023 and made his senior debut at 16, coming on as a substitute in a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Southampton in February 2024.
Liverpool lost Sunday’s match 1-0 to Arsenal, but Nyoni’s inclusion in the starting lineup marked another milestone in his development at Anfield.
