The UK Home Office's latest changes to the Health and Care Worker visa route take effect next month, and immigration advisers say the shift will hit Zimbabwean applicants harder than most other nationalities given how concentrated the community is in social care roles.

Under the revised rules, care workers will no longer be able to bring dependants on new applications, and the minimum salary threshold rises by roughly 10%. Sponsoring employers will also face tighter vetting after a wave of licence revocations linked to exploitative recruitment practices targeting overseas care staff.

"We're already fielding calls from people who moved here specifically so their children could join them once they were settled," said one Zimbabwean community adviser in Leicester. "That plan doesn't work under the new rules, and there isn't a grace period."

Advisers are urging anyone with an offer letter in hand to submit before the change takes effect, and warn that switching sponsors mid-visa could now trigger a fresh, higher-threshold assessment.
