Harare – Zanu-PF Mabvuku-Tafara legislator and Scottland FC president Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya has suggested that his close friend and business associate, Wicknell Chivayo, may have known his time was up.

Sakupwanya made the emotional remarks during a farewell ceremony at Chivayo’s Gletwyn Park mansion on Thursday, as family, friends and associates gathered to pay their final respects to the late businessman.

Speaking in vernacular, Sakupwanya said, “Umwe wangu uyu akanga akuziva kuti zuva rangu rakusvika, nguva yangu pano panyika yakwana.”

The remarks appeared to suggest that Chivayo had spoken or behaved as though he knew his time on earth was coming to an end.

Sakupwanya and Chivayo were close associates, with Chivayo having supported Scottland FC, the Premier Soccer League side owned by Sakupwanya, through several donations.

Speaking emotionally, Sakupwanya also said he and Chivayo had faced people who wished them ill but remained committed to prayer.

Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke, and three others died on September 30 when their helicopter crashed at Kudenga Farm in Marondera.

The couple are being buried at Sahwira Glen Forest Memorial Park in Harare today, in a public funeral that has drawn thousands of mourners.
