The death toll from the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) ferry accident has risen to 95, police have confirmed.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi announced on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, that authorities had identified 10 additional victims, bringing the number of victims identified by their next of kin to 93.

Nyathi said two victims remain unidentified as police continue working with affected families and other relevant stakeholders to complete the identification and recovery process.

The tragedy occurred on 11 August when the Mbuya Nehanda ferry capsized on Lake Kariba while reportedly carrying more than twice its intended passenger capacity.
