HARARE — Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reshuffled senior government officials and appointed new leaders and commissioners to several constitutional commissions, with all the changes taking effect immediately.

The appointments were announced on Friday by Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Martin Rushwaya in a series of statements.

The changes include the reassignment of Tafadzwa Muguti as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, replacing John Basera, who has been moved to the Zimbabwe Land Commission.

Muguti previously served as permanent secretary for Presidential Affairs and Devolution.

Rushwaya said Muguti’s appointment was made by Mnangagwa in consultation with the Public Service Commission under Section 205(1) of Zimbabwe’s Constitution.

The changes also affect several independent constitutional commissions.

Former legislator Anele Ndebele has been appointed chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, while Leslie Ncube will head the Zimbabwe Gender Commission.

Sheuneni Kurasha has been appointed a commissioner of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

At the Zimbabwe Land Commission, Mandivamba Rukuni has been appointed deputy chairperson, while Mabel Ndakaripa-Hungwe and outgoing Local Government permanent secretary Basera have also been appointed commissioners.

The appointments were made under the relevant provisions of Zimbabwe’s Constitution governing the commissions.

The reshuffle comes as the government continues to realign senior administrative and institutional leadership across key state bodies.
