Former Minister Walter Mzembi has formally applied to rejoin Zanu PF, 8 years after he was expelled following a coup against former President Robert Mugabe.

Mzembi, a former Tourism Minister, had his letter discussed during an emergency Provincial Executive Council (PEC) meeting held recently at Masvingo Polytechnic.

“I write to respectfully apply for readmission into ZANU PF.

“My membership was rescinded by a special emergency central committee meeting on November 19, 2017.

“I sincerely wish to renew my membership and contribute positively to its programmes and activities.

“ZANU PF is a party of depth, and I wish to contribute to its development.

“I commit to uphold the constitution of the party if readmitted”, he said.

However, members could not reach a unanimous decision with some accusing him of recently attacking the party on social media.

The matter has since been referred to the Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) by the Provincial Political Commissar (PPC) Brian Munyoro.

In May Mzembi was acquitted on charges of abusing his office after the High Court ruled that the State failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Mzembi had been accused of unlawfully donating four public-viewing television sets to churches, including UFIC, Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries and ZCC during his time as Minister.

The impeding return of Mzembi is an ominous turn of events for the faction called G40 which now looks destined to fade out.

Another of its former members, Prof Jonathan Moyo also worked with President Mnangagwa’s administration during the Constitutional Amendment Act No 3.

Of its most prominent members only Saviour Kasukuwere and Patrick Zhuwao are still to link again with ZANU PF.
