Nigeria has confirmed one case of Ebola in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with health authorities identifying 44 close contacts for monitoring.
Health Minister Professor Muhammad Ali Pate said on Tuesday that the patient, a woman who recently arrived from Uganda, tested positive after receiving treatment at a private hospital. She is now isolated and receiving care.
The government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) have launched contact tracing and intensified surveillance to prevent further spread.
Authorities urged healthcare facilities to remain alert and the public to practise good hand hygiene, avoid contact with body fluids of suspected cases and report symptoms including fever, vomiting and diarrhoea.
