NAIROBI – Kenya’s Ministry of Health has confirmed a second case of Ebola, involving a 39-year-old man who was already under quarantine as a close contact of the country’s first confirmed patient.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the 14th of October, the man developed symptoms including fever, fatigue and joint pain while under daily monitoring and was immediately isolated and tested.

Health authorities said laboratory results confirmed Ebola infection, and the patient is now receiving treatment at a designated facility.

Officials said the case was detected early because the patient was already in quarantine, describing it as evidence that contact tracing and surveillance measures are working as intended.

Kenya has now recorded two confirmed Ebola cases and one death.

Health authorities said there is no evidence of wider community transmission.

The Ministry has identified 128 contacts linked to the first case, with 108 currently in quarantine and being monitored.

Authorities urged the public to remain calm and report symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding to the nearest health facility.
