HARARE — Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister Tino Machakaire on Sunday live-streamed himself aboard a helicopter as he travelled to the funeral of Captain Kelvin Tafirei Soda, one of the pilots killed in the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke and three others.

The helicopter crashed at Kudenga Farm in the Marondera area on September 30, killing everyone on board.

Captain Soda and co-pilot Captain Courage Mutavirwa were among those who lost their lives.

Machakaire’s livestream, showing him travelling by helicopter to Captain Soda’s burial, comes just days after the fatal crash and is likely to attract attention given the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Captain Soda was buried in Marondera on Sunday, October 4

Machakaire had earlier publicly mourned Chivayo, Lucy and the other victims, describing the crash as a devastating tragedy and extending condolences to their families.

The minister’s livestream now offers a striking visual moment as he flies to pay his respects to one of the pilots who died in the crash.
