Harare – Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned Zimbabwean diplomats not to treat foreign postings as vacations, demanding tangible results in attracting investment, expanding trade, and encouraging tourism.
Mnangagwa told Heads of Diplomatic Missions at a meet-and-greet reception in Harare on Monday that diplomats should use their positions to advance the country’s economic interests and improve services for Zimbabweans living abroad.
“Under my administration, serving as diplomats is not child’s play. I need men and women who are determined and committed to working hard for the country’s development. Those who think they are going on holiday, no. You are not going abroad to drink wine. I demand results,” Mnangagwa said.
He challenged envoys to turn diplomatic engagements into concrete economic opportunities, particularly in attracting foreign investment, opening markets for Zimbabwean products and facilitating technology transfer.
The President also urged diplomats to promote Zimbabwe as a tourism destination and ensure that Zimbabweans living abroad receive better services from their country’s missions.
Mnangagwa’s remarks signal a push for a results-driven diplomatic service, with envoys expected to demonstrate how their foreign assignments contribute to the country’s economic development.
