Zimbabwean mixed martial arts fighter Lewis “Porcupine” Mataya will return to the Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) cage on December 3, facing South African featherweight Steven “Guts” Goncalves at EFC 140.

Mataya, who hails from Chimanimani, is seeking to build on an impressive professional debut after overcoming financial challenges that reportedly forced him to sell his car to fund his training camp.

The Zimbabwean made a winning start at EFC 137, defeating South Africa’s Ayanda Zwane by unanimous decision and earning support from Zimbabwean fight fans.

His return to the EFC Hexagon, as the promotion’s fighting arena is known, presents another major test as he takes on an experienced opponent with an established record in professional MMA.

Goncalves, who has nine professional victories, is known for his dangerous submission game, making him a formidable challenge for Mataya.

The December 3 bout is expected to test the Zimbabwean’s ability to maintain his momentum against an opponent with considerable experience in the featherweight division.

Mataya’s journey from Chimanimani to the professional MMA stage has attracted attention, with his determination to finance his own training camp adding to the story behind his rise.

With a victory already under his belt at EFC, the Zimbabwean will be looking to deliver another strong performance and further establish himself in the promotion.

The EFC 140 contest will offer Mataya an opportunity to strengthen his reputation on the regional MMA scene as he faces one of South Africa’s experienced featherweights.
