CCC legislator Caston Matewu escaped unharmed after his Mercedes-Benz C-Class was burnt to ashes last Friday evening while he was travelling to Murambinda Growth Point for the official opening of his bakery.

Matewu, who represents Marondera Central in Parliament, said he was grateful to be alive despite losing several important belongings in the incident.

In a Facebook post, the opposition legislator said the loss of his vehicle and other possessions was insignificant compared to the value of human life.

“Thank you for your concern; a few things are important, but mostly I’m grateful to God for life, which is the most important thing. Cars are material and can be replaced; our lives are irreplaceable,” he wrote.

The circumstances surrounding the fire were not immediately established.
