LIMPOPO — South African police in Lulekani have opened a murder investigation after the body of a 66-year-old Mozambican national was discovered burnt in the bush at a farm in Humulani Settlement.

The man was reported missing before family members launched a search and later found his body in the bush on Saturday, 26 September 2026.

Police who attended the scene found the victim tied with wires and burnt using motor vehicle tyres.

Family members confirmed his identity.

Investigators are probing the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the possibility that it was linked to mob justice.

The motive remains unknown, and no arrests have been made.

Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers condemned the killing and urged communities not to take the law into their own hands.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.

Mob justice is being treated as a serious concern as investigators work to establish who was responsible for the killing and what led to the attack.
