A couple has been arrested after police allegedly discovered compressed dagga hidden in a foreign-registered truck at a checkpoint along the Harare–Chirundu Road.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) identified the suspects as Dzinoreva Tafadzwa Jadson Brian (33) and Elizabeth Mugezelwa (44).

In a statement, police said the couple was intercepted at a checkpoint at the 288-kilometre mark along the Harare–Chirundu Road on October 29, 2026.

A subsequent search of the truck led to the recovery of 10 black plastic packages wrapped in yellow tape and containing compressed dagga.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of a couple … in connection with a case of unlawful possession of dagga,” police said.

The suspects are facing allegations of unlawful possession of dagga.

Police did not disclose the quantity of the drug recovered or the country in which the truck was registered.

The arrest comes amid ongoing police efforts to curb the possession and transportation of illegal drugs across the country.
