Tennis power couple Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils have called it quits!
World No.6 Svitolina, 32, dropped the bombshell on Instagram Monday that her five-year marriage to French showman Monfils, 40, is OVER.
She said the horror of war in her native Ukraine tore her apart inside.
In a controversial post shared on both their accounts, the Ukrainian star confessed:
“This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to share.”
She revealed she has been battling sleepless nights, doubts and “slowly losing myself” since Russia’s invasion in 2022.
“Gael saw all of it. He never let go of my hand,” she wrote.
“We fought through this together for a long time, with everything we had.
“But some battles happen deep inside you, and no amount of love from someone else can win them for you.”
The bombshell blonde, who married Monfils in July 2021 and welcomed daughter Skai in October 2022, said she needs to find herself again and can’t do it inside the marriage.
“It is the hardest truth I have ever had to face,” she added, praising Monfils for his “strength and grace.”
Svitolina was quick to shut down any blame game:
“There is no one to blame here. There are only two people who loved each other deeply and a story that is changing shape.”
She also insisted little Skai, 4, comes first:
“Our marriage is ending, but our family is not. We will always be her parents, side by side.”
Monfils, the former World No.6 famous for his acrobatic on-court antics, had planned to retire at the end of this season but is now listed as retired as of Oct 5.
He withdrew from Lyon this week for “personal reasons.”
The pair, who briefly split in early 2021 before reuniting and tying the knot, were last seen together on court at the US Open mixed doubles.
They reached the semis.
A love story that served up so many smiles now ending in tears.
